Mental Health Sector Profile - Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu Trust
The Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu Trust delivers Alcohol and Drug Counselling services to Rangitahi (young people aged 14-18) and adults aged 18-65. The services are based in Invercargill and are a District-Wide contract. The service consists of the following:
- Rangitahi: One full-time clinician providing assessment, counselling and referral services. Group sessions are also offered. Referral to the service is via a psychiatric clinician or a mental health, alcohol or drug service, or self-referral - after a confirmed diagnosis, or in the case of self-referrals after assessment by an in-house clinician.
- Adult: Three full-time counsellors provide assessment, counselling and referral services to their clients. They also run group programmes. They also employ one full-time community support worker who provides follow-up support and advice for clients and whanau. Eligibility for the service is after referral from either a psychiatric clinician or a mental health, alcohol or drug service - after a confirmed diagnosis.
