Mental Health Sector Profile - Kakakura Health Services
The Kakakura Health Services delivers services to Maori service users. The services are based in Invercargill and are a District-Wide contract. The service consists of the following:
- Toiora Arotake: Needs Assessment and Service Coordination services to Kaupapa Maori Clients. They employ one full-time worker. The services are available to people aged between 6 and 65 years of age who need long-term support due to disabilities related to mental health issues and/or addictions. Eligibility for assessment is after referral from either a psychiatric clinician or a mental health, alcohol or drug service - after a confirmed diagnosis.
- Te Kotuku: A Kaupapa Maori 24 hour residential rehabilitation and planned respite facility (Level 4) for adults who experience mental illness (non-Maori clients are also accepted). The service is delivered from two houses in Invercargill with 7 general beds available, and 3 respite beds. They also employ one full-time community support worker (Kai Awhina). Access to the service requires a psychiatric diagnosis and needs assessment.
